How I Built My Studio
About My Work
At my studio, Iron Goat Art Works, near Clam Falls, WI, I create contemporary sculptures in cast and welded metal, industrial found objects, wood, and stone (soon).

My technical background has become a vocabulary for explorations and expressions of manmade and natural forms, new growth on old foundations, and answers that become the next questions. At times, the sculptural process is intuitive: hands on manipulation of the media. At others, it’s a planned concept that is modeled in 3D on the computer. More and more, it's a mix and interweaving of the two - reason with passion and left brain with right.

It has been said that I have a tendency to jump in at the deep end of a project when I barely know how to tread water. I believe in knowing (or at least trying to understand) my physical, mental, and emotional limits and then pushing them – here with a little nudge, there with a battering ram - to their breaking point. Stretching. Learning. Maybe, understanding. Always embracing change (maybe a few constants hidden here and there). My father once told me, “I hope that you’re never content.” I have that same hope. Although, a large bowl of ice cream followed by a nap in the afternoon sun can put that hope at hazard.

Wondering, I create. Seeing, I think. Understanding, I wonder.
